We moved from Europe to Amberley, North Canterbury, in 2012. Amberley has a really friendly community, which is very important for us, especially because we have no family here in New Zealand.

My life changed from urban to rural when I moved to New Zealand. Living surrounded by nature inspired me to focus on an eco-friendly life. I first started making soap, using natural local products, to reduce plastic use in my home. 

I now create 100 percent natural soap and shampoo bars using local products like Black Estate wine, Latitude 42 manuka honey, Brew Moon beer and seaweed from Banks Peninsula or upcycled ingredients such as coffee grounds and soap scraps, plus ceramic soap dishes. My favourite thing about what I do is that people enjoy my soap for their daily life and can also reduce plastic use in their lives. - Jungwha Kim, Studio Star
