Shanalee James Ceramics

I live in Palmerston North with my partner and border collie. I moved here for my PhD about three years ago. We love that it's super close to both Hawke's Bay and Wellington where we're both originally from, and where we travel to often for yummy food and good weather!

I make handmade ceramics that I hope are functional but make someone's everyday routine a little more special.

I started making pottery when I first moved to Palmerston North, leaving behind most of my good friends in Auckland and doing long-distance with my partner. I decided I needed a new hobby to keep me occupied and joined my local pottery club. This is still just a hobby, but something which I enjoy immensely as a creative outlet.

My favourite thing is designing new pieces and I'm always thinking up new ideas of what I want to do next. That's what I love about pottery - as a medium it's so versatile. I absolutely love seeing my pieces in use, I'm not sure it will ever get old when someone sends me a picture of a piece they cherish and love in their home.
