Matthew Hall Glass
I live on a small farm in Onewhero with my partner and our two little boys. We moved here about 10 years ago and love living here. You couldn't ask for a better place to raise kids.
I'm a classically trained glass blower. I currently make a range of functional glass pieces inspired by early 20th century design including my colourful Fulvio bowls. These pieces show the fluid movement of the medium and amuse with optics and a sense of volume.
I started working at a glass colour factory at 18 years old. Since then I've technically assisted many national and international artists including John Penman, Peter Veisnik, Luke Jacomb, Nick Fruin, Dylan Martinez, Martin Janecky and Dan Friday.
I've also had the privilege of travelling to Murano and the Czech Republic to visit studios, glass collections and do a goblet-making course.
I love making glass because it's a beautiful mix of science and art. It has a very rich history and focuses the head, the heart and the hands. - Matthew Hall
