Deborah Sweeney
I work out of my home studio in Days Bay, Wellington, where I live with my artist husband Niels Meyer-Westfeld and our two boys Lars and Romeo. After 15 years running my eponymous fashion label and looking for a change of pace, I took a short sabbatical to spend some time with my youngest son before he started school. It was during this time that I completed a clay workshop and fell in love with ceramics. I left fashion behind in 2017 and have been making ceramics every spare moment since.
I place huge importance on quality materials and workmanship - buying less and buying well. My work is made from New Zealand clay, hand blended with local volcanic sand, which creates a lovely random speckle when melted at high temperatures.
